Some objects take themselves very seriously. Others – like the ceramics by Flo, also known as Launisch – do exactly the opposite, and in doing so, gain unexpected depth. His vases and figures grin crookedly, beam with wide smiles, or appear slightly worried. They hover somewhere between art object, everyday item, and character study. Sometimes they are candle holders, sometimes fruit bowls, planters, or vases – but always full of attitude.
Perhaps it’s precisely this kind of everyday closeness that is often missing in meticulously curated interiors. We present ourselves as modern, minimal, well thought-out – and yet almost everyone has that one small moment of excess in their daily life: a hilariously bad photo of a loved one set as a contact picture, the one we would never show but that makes us laugh every time the phone rings. Flo’s pieces are reminiscent of those scenes – of what we secretly love, even though it doesn't fit into our carefully crafted concepts. And perhaps it is precisely these things that make a home feel truly alive. Not in spite of their deviation from style – but because of it.
