At Salone del Mobile 2025, I saw many kitchens. Satellite by 70Materia was the one that made me stop. Not because of spectacular details, but because of a feeling. It felt more like a workbench than a classic kitchen. A place where you are free to experiment rather than simply prepare ingredients. Perhaps that is exactly why it fits so well with a movement that is steadily gaining relevance: Outdoor Kitchen Culture.

In Tuscany, this has long been part of everyday life. Masonry outdoor kitchens made of natural stone or brick, integrated grills and solid work surfaces define the scene. What is tradition there is now being reinterpreted in Central Europe. Outdoor living is no longer just about a grill in the garden. It is an attempt to consistently extend the living space outdoors.

It therefore comes as no surprise that Italian product designers and architects combine modern design and lived culture with such precision. The modular system consists of three elements dedicated to washing, preparing and cooking. In the mobile version, the units stand on wheels and can be reconnected using magnets. In the fixed version, they are securely fastened together. The kitchen can remain indoors, move onto the terrace or be placed entirely outdoors.

Materiality plays the leading role. The countertop is made of 70Materia, the company’s own patented material mixture of concrete, water and natural components, which forms the basis of all its collections. The base is crafted from brushed aluminium. The textured surface can be customised through various design options. The modules themselves are also highly configurable, offering open or closed compartments, drawers or shelves. The system is designed to integrate common household appliances such as gas or induction cooktops, a built-in oven or a dishwasher. In this way, it provides all the functions of a fully equipped kitchen. Production takes place entirely in Italy.

Satellite is more than a kitchen system. It is a contemporary response to a way of life deeply rooted in Italy.
